This page describes the Funding Application Criteria used to provide grants to organisations, events and individuals in Galloway, which covers the former counties of Wigtown and Kirkcudbright. Applications from outside Galloway are not eligible and cannot be accepted - the full list of exclusions is listed below.

Funding Guidelines

When to apply?

The Trustees consider applications every two months if received at least seven days in advance - the next scheduled meeting is Monday 29th April 2024. It’s essential that all Applications are submitted on the appropriate Application Form, and are accompanied by our Project Reference Form which must be completed by a Referee who is independent of the project – more details can be found on the tab ‘How to apply?’.

How to apply?

Applications must be made on the uptodate version of the Funding Application Form, one Form for Organisations and a simpler Form for IndividualsThese can be downloaded from this web site, or obtained from the Secretary whose address is on the Contact page.

Applications must be fully completed and submitted by the organisation or individual seeking the award, and not by a third party. Any gaps in information will delay consideration of the application and may lead to rejection. Returning the Form by email helps process the application more speedily.

The Referee must be independent of the project and of the person or organisation seeking the award, and must vouch for the project using the separate Project Reference Form.

Any application which is not accompanied by the supporting reference prior to the closing date will be automatically disqualified.

Who can apply?

Any non-commercial organisation that requires funding to assist in the implementation of applications that meet the criteria and objectives outlined on this page.

How much funding is available?

Whilst there are no specified upper or lower limits, the annual sums for disbursement are not large - currently a maximum of £3,000 may be awarded to a successful Application.

Grant conditions?

The first condition of receiving a grant is that you notify the Association's Secretary of receipt of the cheque within two weeks.

Secondly, you must acknowledge the contribution that the Association has made to your project. You must acknowledge the grant in relevant publicity material, such as websites, leaflets, posters, exhibition catalogues, guidebooks, adverts and press releases. If your organisation has a website or web pages that give details of your project, this is an ideal place to acknowledge the Association with a link to our website www.gallowayassoc.org.uk

Thirdly, within three months of receiving the cheque from the Association, you must submit a written report to the Association's Secretary describing the activities funded by the award, including at least one digital image relevant to the supported activities. By submitting the report, you grant permission for the Association to use parts of the report and the image(s) within its own publicity and reports.

Individuals?

Developing Exceptional Talents: Where individual Gallovidians can demonstrate that they have exceptional talents which could be developed to a higher level, they can complete a Form entitled "Application for Funding by lndividuals" which must be supported by suitably qualified Referees. The Trustees require the Referee to confirm that the individual has a proven exceptional talent, which can be developed further with financial assistance that is not available from other sources. The Application Form must include evidence to demonstrate their exceptional talents and aspirations.

Overseas volunteering projects?

The Trustees prefer to support organised groups of young Gallovidians undertaking projects outwith Galloway for the benefit of others, rather than provide support for an individual participant. Funding would normally be provided through the appropriate Galloway based organisation, such as their school, college or youth group.

Application Types?

Any application of a non-commercial nature may be eligible, but preference is given to projects that support the youth of Galloway or help the cultural development of the region or the re-generation of communities within the region.
