From 1638 to 1688 the Covenanters fought for religious freedom to keep Kirk and State separate from each other. During that time many suffered persecution banishment and death for their religious beliefs and throughout Galloway there are places associated with the Covenanters. <description>Details  Sandy Rankin will present details of the loss of the Clydebuilt SS Rowan off Corsewall Point on 9th October 1921.  The fatalities included members of the Southern Syncopated Orchestra who were booked to play at the Scala in Dublin after a successful run at the Lyric Theatre in Glasgow.  Sandys family were closely involved in the tragedy  his grandfather was a crew member of the Portpatrick Lifeboat which launched to assist and his wifes great grandfather was Captain Brown of the Rowan.
